A Bag of Trouble

Today I opened Designer style handbags by Sherri Haab and set out to make one of my own. My first attempt at a handbag and this is what happened:

It begun badly as I didn't have enough fusible interfacing and had to, on one side of the lining, make a patchwork which later on became unstuck. Then I realised that I had bought too heavyweight an interfacing so that the fabric became way too stiff and wrinkly. When the lining were sewed together I realised that I had forgotten the fabric I intended to use as pockets and now it was too late to integrate those pockets into my design. Oh well. By now you'd think I'd made enough mistakes but oh no.

My next trouble was the ribbon I was going to use for closure. I managed to sew it on loopsidedly as it got caught up in the topmost seam, that stitched the lining and outside fabric together. So I had to rip it up and make it anew (I were on the verge of giving up here, but D. encouraged me so I gave it another go fortunatly). This same ribbon needed a button to loop around so I began sewing it in place. Guess who messed that up by sewing from above to beneath but not through the holes - around the edge of the button! Geez.

Finally I got to make the decoration - the green ribbon which I glued, stiched and beaded on place. And I didn't have any mishaps at all! A good ending to all the mistakes I made.

I think this bag will be used as a giftwrap, as I can't see how it ever could be used as an actual handbag. But don't fear, I've learned from my mistakes and will make a new attempt soon I hope.
